Where to eat for the 2009 ALM.

Hello All,
An important question that all attendees ask themselves during the ALM is "Where can I get some food?" Keep in mind that you have an hour and a half (12:00-1:30) for lunch. Here are some options: you can go to a restaurant in the nearby area or you can go to the Staff potluck lunch. Just remember to choose wisely and to be back in time for the afternoon workshops and the rest of the ALM.

2009 ALM Staff Potluck Lunch

Hello Everyone,

Last year, there was a staff potluck at the 2008 ALM. The responses were positive so this year we are going to try it again. Details are as follows:

You are Invited to the Annual Meeting Staff Pot Luck Lunch

The staff potluck lunch was so popular last year we are doing it again this year. If you missed it - the food was yummy. The menu: soups/chilies, salads, and cookies/brownies. The soups need to be in your crock pot ready to warm up for lunch. Salads can go in the large refrigerator. Please bring your own soup ladles or salad tongs. If you don’t cook you can bring paper goods: soup bowls, salad plates, utensils, or napkins. Ice tea and water will be available. Seating will be on the patio and in the children’s area. Please email Stephanie.horal@.fresnolibrary.org by Wednesday, Oct. 9 with what you would like to bring so we can have a nice selection of foods and paper goods. If you have any questions please email or call me at Woodward Park Library, 488-3135.

So if you don't feel like travelling for lunch, please join us for the staff potluck. Email or call Stephanie Horal for questions, etc. Have a great day.

2009 Annual Library Meeting is almost here!

As is our annual tradition, Fresno County Public Library will hold its Annual Library Meeting soon. It's right around the corner and that means any and all information about the Annual Library Meeting (ALM)will be coming soon so keep an eye out on this blog. If you are searching for any ALM information on this blog, just look for the ALM tag and it will list all ALM entries.

Without further ado, here is this year's theme and some information tidbits regarding this year's ALM, which is happening Monday, October 12, 2009.

Theme: Surviving and Thriving!

The Fresno County library and library staff are experiencing a number of opportunities and challenges in these difficult economic times. The library is changing to address these challenges. Organizational and individual stress comes with change and the challenge of the economic downturn. Change also provides the opportunity to introduce creative changes and thrive! Most importantly, we welcome the increased use of the library.

The 2009 Annual Meeting will include workshops on:

Updates on changes that have been made
New library grants awarded for 2009/2010
Stress relief workshops
Practical ways to get through difficult financial times

If you have any questions, please put them in the comments area and myself or the ALM committee will be happy to answer them.

NOYS: Do you want to add something?

Perhaps you have wondered: "Where do they get the information that they post here?"
OK, maybe it never crossed your mind, but you're wondering NOW aren't you?

Well, some things are almost obvious in their timeliness (SRP info in the late spring? No Way!), but some weeks I wander around asking people, "Do you have something to put in NOYS?"

In this modern age, that is essentially what I am doing now; wandering around the internet, asking Library Staff if there is any information related to Children or Teens that I can help broadcast to the rest of the library (or at least to whoever reads this).
So, are you planning something you want everyone to know about? Do you want to brag about something great that happened at your branch or department (and show off the photos)?

All you have to do is let me know: send an email (Nancy Wirt) or call me here in Youth Services (488-3205).
Thank you.

Senior Luncheon

Sara Gibbs, Fowler

The Fowler Branch Library collaborated with Senior Citizens Center of Fowler and the Fowler Chamber of Commerce to host a “Senior Luncheon” on Monday, August 17th. All of the seniors happily munched on boxed lunches while watching an episode of “The Andy Griffith Show” movie-style on the big screen of the Ruth Mukchian Meeting Room. Many guffaws, laughs and giggles were heard as Barney got into his usual gullible trouble while Andy successfully bailed him out! They next gobbled down Neapolitan ice cream sundaes with strawberry, caramel, or chocolate sauce with whipped cream, while Sara Gibbs demonstrated Wii bowling and invited them to join the Senior Wii Bowling Team at the library every 1st Wednesday of the month from 1:30-2:30pm. While some of the seniors were a bit intimidated at first, most of them enjoyed it after their first successful bowl! The Fowler Library hopes they will return on September 2nd to join the Wii team or to attend the computer sessions they were invited to try out.
