Below is the agenda for the 2009 ALM so take a look at it and start making your decisions on which workshops you are going to attend. Just a reminder, all workshops are open, no prior registration is required. Additionally, there will not be a detailed agenda that will be handed out on the day of the ALM so be sure to look at this post for additional information.

Get a "sneak peek" at the new book celebrating Fresno County Library's centennial in 2010. Bill Secrest, Jr. will give a preview of this original publication exploring 100 years of library history. From the humble beginnings of library service in Fresno County to celebrity visitors, literary librarians and the "lighter side" of librarianship, this workshop is sure to fascinate and entertain. You might even discover a bit of unknown library trivia!

4. Statistics Spa Day: Massaging Your Data
Do you wish there was an easier way to analyze those 10,000 rows of data from the summer reading program? Or maybe you want to summarize 200 survey responses for your supervisor. Come learn how to analyze and present data you have collected using Excel pivot tables and charts. Pivot tables allow you to easily summarize, as well as perform calculations on just about any kind of data. Once you understand the basic concepts of this dynamic tool, you can begin massaging your own data to make it more understandable and usable. Presenter: Kathleen Smith.

When times get tough - the tough figure out how to survive. Listen to tips on how to create a small scale solution to family budget woes and boost your morale, with a little planning and a little digging in the dirt.

1. Mother Goose in Fresno
Illustrator/Author Doug Hansen will share the artist's point of view in a slide show and discussion of the challenges and rewards of re-imagining classic children's literature. Hansen's book, Mother Goose in California, was published in April 2009 by Heyday Books.

Would you like the rest of your life to be filled with creativity, joy and fulfillment?
Aging sneaks up on all of us. We can resist, or we can embrace this natural life process and maximize our enjoyment of what can be the best phase of our lives.
In this talk, Nancy Tan, author of award-winning QUIET MIND, HEALTHY BODY: The Art of Low-Stress Living, will identify the key ingredients for graceful aging and address what gets in the way of happiness.

Presented by the team who participated in California State Library, Get Involved: Powered by Your Library training institute will provide highlights on volunteer engagement benefiting the library. They will share information on areas where volunteers are currently assisting the branches and new ways volunteers can support staff in serving the community.

The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust. Diadre Metzler, Education Director, will chat about the abundant opportunities offered by the River Parkway Trust for recreation, education, stewardship and family fun. You’ll discover how to unwind at the San Joaquin River!

2. Yoga for Stress Relief
Do you have neck and shoulder tension? Do you find yourself worrying about the future? Do you have digestive problems? Do you have trouble sleeping? If you answered yes to any of these questions, yoga can help.
Yoga is an excellent stress relief technique. It involves a series of both moving and stationary poses, combined with deep breathing to link the body and the mind. The physical and mental benefits of yoga provide a natural counterbalance to stress, and strengthen the relaxation response in your daily life. In this workshop you will experience conscious breathing to engage your relaxation response, combined movement and breathing exercises to help focus the mind, and gentle mindful stretches to relieve physical tension and stress
